SERVICES

the country offering a comprehensive service to breeders, rearers and finishers
plus retail and wholesale meat outlets. In addition, special events include
shows and sales of suckled calves, beef and dairy breeding stock. Pedigree bull
sales of all the main breeds are held in the Spring and Autumn.
The Autumn lamb sales are one of the highlights of the Scottish farming calendar
when hundreds of thousands of store lambs are put through the auction ring.
However, selling sheep by auction is not simply a seasonal occupation and the
markets hold regular sales of all types of breeding and feeding sheep throughout
the year, including the famous Kelso Ram Sales.

The auction markets provide a service for the pig producer and the end buyer,
selling weaners, breeding gilts, sows and boars, store and prime pigs. In addition,
certain companies specialise in sales of pedigree breeding stock.

The services offered by many auctioneering companies include the sale and let of farm land and agricultural property with full advice on valuations etc. Machinery and equipment sales are held by most companies and the Institute membership includes companies dealing in fine arts and furnishings.
